Matt Returns to University of Richmond for Evening Keynote
Matt presenting at the University of Richmond.
On the 1st of April, Matt spoke at a University of Richmond event discussing ecological economics and degrowth. The evening event was open to the public as well as all University of Richmond students.
While Matt had already spoken twice to individual classes at the University of Richmond in 2025, this recent event was co-hosted by the Richmond Business School and the School of Arts and Sciences and opened up to the entire student body. The event was held at Jepson Hall in the Business School in an auditorium that seated 144 people. The room was full at the time of Matt’s talk with a number of students coming up after the talk to discuss the topics in more detail.
Matt spoke for about 40 minutes on Ecological Economics, degrowth and how people and economies can accommodate a post-growth future. The Q&A featured pointed questions about how to implement a post-growth economy, the possibilities of green growth, the role of AI in driving growth, and the breakdown of the environment as demonstrated by the planetary boundaries framework.
After the event, Matt spoke with a number of faculty from the University about ways that Arketa Institute and the University of Richmond can continue to work together.
