Matt Speaks at Georgetown University

Matt leads a discussion about Ecological Economics and a post-growth economy at Georgetown University in Washington DC.

On March 25th, Matt met with finance students at Georgetown University to discuss the work of Arketa Institute and introduce the concepts of Ecological Economics and degrowth. The event was organized by finance students and Georgetown University and open to the public.

Matt spoke for approximately 45 minutes, walking those attending through the limits of Neoclassical Economics, the promise of Ecological Economics, the policy implications of degrowth and the need for a downscaling of production and consumption in the face of environmental collapse.

Following the presentation, discussion continued for another 45 minutes in the classroom, before continuing in the famous “Tombs” bar across the street on campus.

We look forward to continuing these conversations at Georgetown and beyond.
