Matt speaks at DC Climate Week

Matt speaks at DC Climate week on the campus of the University of the District of Columbia.

On April 23rd, Matt spoke at the DC Climate Week event, “Making Degrowth Happen: The What, How, and Why for Climate Advocates” held on the campus of the University of the District of Columbia.

The event explored how to operationalize degrowth with speakers who addressed degrowth through the lenses of finance, degrowth metrics and GDP, and advocacy and organizing. The event was hosted by Sabine O’Hara, Distinguished Professor, College of Agriculture, Urban Sustainability and Environmental Sciences (CAUSES).

In addition to Matt, the other speakers featured were:

  • Trip Powers, of Modern Money Lab who spoke on Modern Monetary theory

  • Tania Taylor, a doctoral candidate in Urban Leadership and Entrepreneurship

  • Otis Pitney, representing the Degrowth Institute

  • Alix Underwood, of the Center for the Advancement of the Steady State Economy

Each speaker gave a short presentation about their area of expertise followed by breakout and networking exercises.

Matt spoke about the mission of Arketa Institute to normalize the concepts of Ecological Economics and a post-growth economy that operates within planetary boundaries. Matt also spoke on Arketa Institute’s recent paper, A Path to Post-Growth Pensions.
