Matt speaks at DeSchool Chicago 2025

Arketa Institute Co-Founder Matt Orsagh presenting at DeSchool in Chicago, IL, USA.

This week, Arketa Institute's Matt Orsagh spoke at the Degrowth Institute’s first annual DeSchool event in Chicago, Illinois, USA. The Degrowth Institute started last year with the mission of empowering the sustainability movement (in the US) to challenge the need for economic growth. They aim to focus on degrowth education, research, and organizing to build a more just and sustainable economy beyond growth.

As part of these efforts, they convened their first DeSchool in this week. The four-day gathering (July 26-29th) brought together activists, academics, and advocates to learn from one another, organize future projects and strengthen the degrowth movement in the United States.

Matt gave a talk summarizing the work of Arketa Institute, the role of finance in moving to a post-growth world, and what it would take to increase awareness of degrowth among the general public.

Over 100 people participated in the sold-out event.
