The Limitations of Venture Capital: Matt Speaks at the Chicago Climate Action Museum
Matt speaks virtually at “Lost the Plot” event in Chicago on September 9th.
In early September, Matt joined Michelle Carr, CEO of Evergreen Climate Innovations, and Kara Rodby, Principal at Volta Energy Technologies and organizer of the “Lost the Plot” seminar series for a panel discussion in Chicago.
"Lost The Plot" is a monthly seminar series covering the status of the climate, the systemic causes of this generation-defining problem, and real solution proposals. The main goal is to get the conversation going and getting people to have the difficult conversations we need to have about climate, overshoot, and the need for a post-growth economy.
The event, titled “'The Patience Deficit: Rethinking Capital for Climate Tech”, was held at the Chicago Climate Action Museum thanks to the work of Museum Coordinator Dylan Carson.
The meeting kicked off with Kara reviewing the current state of the Venture Capital space that she works in. Kara emphasized the limits of the VC model in addressing climate change and overshoot.
Michelle Carr spoke about her own firms work in sponsoring climate focused technologies, but agreed with Kara on the limits of the investment industry to drive the changes needed to drive the changes needed in climate policy and action.
Matt spoke on Arketa Institute’s recent paper on post-growth pensions and talked about ways that policy and culture can move to a post-growth model.
The event concluded with a robust round of Q&A from the audience.
We highly recommend attending a “Lost the Plot” event if you can, or checking out the recordings of their events on YouTube if you can’t attend in person.
